01 Augustus 2009 | Kenia, Nairobi
We visited some friends in Kijabe (one night) and now were back in Nairobi.
So far we saw a lot of the country, but less than we would have wanted... It was a very good time to see some friends, sponsor kids and nature, but we missed some other nice people, nature and cultural activities just because we were sick, tired or both. We skipped some of our plans to visit place A and/or B, just because it wouldn't be good for our rest or health... But we enjoyed our time and we learned a valuable lesson:
Even though we have a small budget, we are not the small budget travellers :). We need places with good food, good sleep and rest on our vacation. We'll remember this whenever we will travel in the future. Were sitting out our time in Nairobi and are doing just a few things we really need/want to do (like some shopping and seeing the elephant orphanage). So we'll be rested enough (hopefully) to come home on a night flight.
Looking back over the whole time here, we learned a lot, grew as persons and in our relationship with each other and with God. We're coming home as Nick and Nynke, but not the same Nick and Nynke that left the Netherlands almost 5 months ago. So enjoy the new us :-)
We hope to see a few people soon when we get back and were already planning some visits. We hope you enjoyed our blogs, we'll post one (maybe two) more when we're back, just for fun. Enjoy the last part and see you later!
God bless,
Nick and Nynke
Through our travels we learned a few ways how people try to sell you stuff:
- They shove the corn (almost) right up your nose
- They call you friend (even though they have no clue to what your name is)
- They say they'll give you a good price, but we know that it takes at least 5 minutes of haggling to come to that good price
- They sell everything on the side of the road, even 3 week old puppies (calling them watchdogs?!?!) and bunnies
- Buy my ... (fill in the blank), it's only 500 Shillings... "No thank you." Okay, make it 300 Shillings... "No thank you, I don't need it." Okay, make it 100 Shillings. (and so on)
- "Come into my shop, looking is free"
- Fifty guys selling exactly the same (sodas for instance) and all of them trying to sell it to the people who say, no thank you
There's probably more, maybe we'll add, but you can think of some more tricks...

Goed om weer wat te horen van jullie ;)
Ik ben benieuwd naar de foto's en verhalen als jullie terug zijn :)
Ik hou niet zo erg veel van lezen, dus we plannen een keer dat ik kom in Amsterdam? ;)
Lots of blessings!

Wow, time flies, over een paar daagjes alweer terug op Nederlandse bodem... 't lijkt wel of jullie 5 weken weg zijn geweest ipv 5 maanden!! Ben heel erg benieuwd naar alle verhalen en foto's. I'm ready to meet the new Nynke en Nick :)! Hou die heerlijke Afrikaanse relaxtheid maar lekker vol in ons drukke Nederlandje, tot snel en welterusten voor in het vliegtuig ;)
Liefs Rachel -
